Former Mississippi State standout Omarr Conner knows a thing or two about what an SEC wide receiver…
Jones Ready to Run with the Big Dawgs
Dontea Jones profile "I am excited about Big Dawg," said Jones. "I am looking forward to all of the competition and being able to work with my coach (Billy Gonzales). "This will be my first time to really work with him and I am excited about that." Jones reports that he is eager to get some feedback from his projected position coach. "I know Coach Gonzales is always talking about fundamentals and he wants to be sure his receivers know everything before the get on the field," said Jones. "I want to know what I can do to be a better player this year and I want to hear what all I need to work on. "I talk to Coach Gonzales all of the time, but this will be the first time he's coached me and I am looking forward to see how all of that goes." In addition to sharpening the saw, Jones is eager to build relationships with his future teammates. "I am excited to meet everybody and have the chance to get out there and compete together," said Jones. "I talk to a lot of the other players committed, but this will be the chance for all of us to be together." The Louisville standout reports that the current Bulldog verbals hope to aid in adding to their number during the weekend. "We are going to be doing some recruiting," said Jones with a chuckle. "I am trying to get Jamal Peters to commit. "I know what a great player he is and he needs to be a Bulldog. "We have a lot of great players in Mississippi that don't always get the exposure they deserve, but Jamal is a guy that everybody in the nation would love to have play for them. "We need him to stay in state and come to Mississippi State with us and be part of what we're building." Before Jones can reap the benefits of his recruiting efforts next year, he hopes to leave his mark on Louisville High school football. "I know some people think we're not going to be as good as we were last year, but I know we're going to have a good team," said Jones. "We lost three receivers and I am the only one coming back this year, but we have some kids coming up that are really good too. "We went to the championship round of every 7-on-7 tournament this summer, so we're getting it together. "I am not sure why we couldn't win the championship, but we got there with a lot of new players. "Our workouts are going good and we're just ready to get started."
