Gators offer Graham

In a sense, he had to come back home to get one of the football scholarship offers that he wanted. Wauchula (Fla.) Hardee County linebacker / tight end Derrick Graham grew up in Gainesville and moved south in the 9th grade. On Tuesday, he camped at Florida, and afterward earned a scholarship offer from the Gators.

At Hardee County, Derrick Graham does his thing on both sides of the ball. He started as a receiver, and has grown into more of a tight end, oh yeah, he is also a menace on the defensive side of the ball.

The Florida staff saw a lot of film on Graham and so a good work out in Gainesville was going to mean good things and that is what happened.

"They like that I am dual threat, I can drop back in coverage and also rush the passer," Graham said after talking to the staff on the phone where they offered him a scholarship. "They are recruiting me as an athlete. They're talking about tight end and outside linebacker. It really doesn't matter… I like both sides of the ball. I prefer defense, but I will play whatever the team needs me to play."

At 6-foot-3.5 and 217 pounds, there is a lot to like about Graham who now has 17 scholarship offers with Florida making his third SEC offer.

He says the Gator offer is pretty special.

"That offer carries a lot of weight," Graham said. "I am really just trying to look at all the schools and what not, but the Florida offer really carries a lot of weight."

Graham is in the middle of a short camp tour and has stops at Georgia Tech, Kentucky, and Louisville in the next four days. After that, it is time to start thinking about the way things are going in the recruiting process.

"Right now I am just going to view all the schools," he said. "I am taking a tour of most of the schools that are recruiting me. Whatever I get from that is what I am going off of. After this trip is over, my brother and I are going to sit down and see what is what."

With that in mind, his plan of waiting a few months to make a decision may actually change.

"I really wanted to decide during the season," he said. "But, it is possible that I could do it this summer."
