Bulldogs Conclude Homestand Against MVSU

STARKVILLE, Miss. – In-state foes will battle on the hardwood Tuesday as Mississippi State looks to maintain its perfect record in a clash with Mississippi Valley State. The Bulldogs (2-0) currently have four players averaging double-figures in points after the first two contests of the season. Sophomore guard Fred Thomas made his season-debut against Kennesaw State by netting 17 points while making tying a career-high with four three-pointers made.

MSU used a dominating second half to cruise past the Owls in a 78-55 win on Thursday. Four Bulldog players scored in double-digits, while Coach Rick Ray's squad used a stifling defense to force 26 turnovers on the night. Mississippi State has excelled on the defensive side of the ball, limiting opponents to just 55.5 points per game.

Sophomore forward Gavin Ware looks to grab at least ten rebounds in three-straight games for the first time in his career. The Starkville native averages 12 points and almost 13 rebounds per outing this season.

The Delta Devils (1-2) enter the matchup having played a difficult schedule in the early part of the season. MVSU fell at Oklahoma State and Texas A&M before bouncing back with a 108-48 win against Champions Baptist. Five MVSU players scored in double-figures in the victory.

Mississippi State sports a 3-0 all-time record against the Delta Devils, with the last meeting coming in the form of a 73-45 Bulldog win in 2009. MSU is 22-3 against teams that currently comprise the SWAC, including a 71-56 win over Prairie View A&M in the opening game of the season. The Bulldogs will also play SWAC and in-state foe Jackson State next Wednesday.

After Tuesday night's tilt, MSU will hit the road for the first time this season as it travels to Utah State on Saturday. Action is set to begin at 8:05 p.m. CT at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum in Logan, Utah.
