Recruitment picking up for Young

Kenny Young

2014 LB Kenny Young has seen his recruitment pick up in recent weeks. The three-star prospect discusses a recent trip to UCLA and how things are going with home-state LSU.

For class of 2014 linebacker Kenny Young, the recruiting process is starting to pick up. At 6-2 225 pounds, Young has become a coveted linebacker prospect since the end of his junior season at John Curtis Christian School. As a junior, Young collected 81 tackles and defended two passes for a linebacking corps that also feature LSU signee Duke Riley. While he is beginning to collect offers at a rapid rate, Young explained that he is just taking everything in stride and enjoying the recruiting process without trying to narrow things down.

"The recruiting process is going really well right now and things are really starting to pick up," Young told TSD. "I'm starting to get a lot of offers from schools. Everything is going great and I'm just trying to enjoy the process right now."

With the visit process underway for Young, he and teammate Malachi Dupre recently ventured out to California to check out UCLA. The three-star prospect explained that he received some good news on the long-awaited visit.

"The UCLA visit was a great trip," said Young. "I got to meet all of the coaches and I got to see the campus. A lot of great things happened on Saturday. I went with my teammate, Malachi Dupre, and they offered both of us. That was pretty cool."

While the offer from UCLA was a bit unexpected for Young, he said that the overture just capped off a great weekend of seeing some of the things that the Bruins have to offer.

"It is good to have another offer," said Young. "They were interested in me and I was interested in them and I finally got an opportunity to go see them. It is a great school and I really liked it."

"They have a good engineering program and that is what I want to major in. They have some great coaches and great players coming in. They are getting better."

One school that offered Young following his junior campaign was LSU. However, because he has been so busy, Young said that he has not had a chance to get in contact with the coaching staff in a couple of weeks.

"Actually I've been busy so I haven't really talked to them," said Young. "I need to give them a call sometime soon. I haven't talked to a whole lot of coaches lately because I've been busy."

Even though Young has collected numerous offers in recent weeks, he explained that the LSU staff has not begun pressing for his commitment at this point. However, Young knows the Tiger coaching staff would like to lock him down early.

"The LSU staff hasn't really been pressing me yet," said Young. "Obviously, they want me to commit. But, they haven't been pressuring me about it. They said it is between me and my family and they don't want to pressure me into the decision."

Regardless of if Young shared the field with LSU signee Duke Riley, he explained that Riley being in Baton Rouge shouldn't have an impact on his decision.

"My mindset is to go to college to get where I can be successful," said Young. "He is a great guy and he is going to help LSU win. It would be cool to play with a teammate, but I'm going to decide on a school for myself and him being there won't really have an impact on my decision."
