Cornerback Offer Talks Missouri Interest

Cornerback Offer Talks Missouri Interest

The Missouri Tigers coaching staff has been out on the trail recruiting as of late and extending new offers to a few players. ShowMeMizzou.com gets the latest from a recent cornerback who has been among them.

As the 2012 season came to a close, and with the Missouri Tigers having experienced attrition in the secondary, it appears that the Missouri staff has turned to the junior college ranks to possibly fill an identified need in their secondary.   ShowMeMizzou.com spoke with 2013 CB Howard Wilder  6’0”  185   Woodland Hills (CA) Pierce College, who will receive his associate degree in May, and who reports having recently received a Missouri offer.

“Coach Steckel said that he needs me at corner,”  said Wilder.   “This is the SEC we’re talking about!”

Wilder, who is from Maryland and the D.C. area, holds quite a number of attractive offers, including recent offers from Kentucky and Wisconsin, in addition to Missouri, to go along with offers from USF, Rutgers, Arizona State, Fresno State, Hawaii, Kansas, Louisiana Tech, Maryland, Middle Tennessee, Nevada, New Mexico State, Pittsburgh, San Diego State, and Utah State, among others.

Wilder, who reports a 4.44 forty, and a 38” vertical, is on pace to graduate in May, and he will have three years to play two, beginning with the 2013 season.  He finished the 2012 season at Pierce with 45 tackles, 1 interception, and six pass-break-ups.

He’s already taken an official visit to USF in early December, and he has taken an earlier official visit to Houston.   He has an official visit to Kentucky scheduled for January 18.  He said that he expects to visit Wisconsin and Missouri this month, as well.

Wilder said that he will make his decision on or before signing day.

“I’m looking for a good fit,”  said Wilder, who described himself as a “lock-down” corner.  “Roster and depth chart matters.  And, how much they love me, and how much they want me.  I’ve only got two years to play, so I want to come in and play early, so I can get to the NFL.”

I’ll have more on Howard Wilder later.
