Mississippi All-Star: Tayler Polk

Tayler Polk led his team to the edge of a state title. Brandon took South Panola down to the final seconds and proved to be a worthy opponent in the 6A state title game. With his Bulldog career now over, Polk is representing Brandon at the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game.

"It is a good feeling to know I played as hard as I could," said Polk of his play in the state championship. "I know I left it all out there effort wise.

"It was heartbreaking, but I know I left all I had on that field."

Polk has looked forward to the chance to showcase his talent against the best players in Mississippi and Alabama as part of All-Star week.

"I feel like I have done pretty good so far," said Polk. "Our defensive line is really good, so they are making a lot of plays right now.

"I am going to always try my best, so I am going to make every play that I can."

Polk will be able to graduate later this month. He had discussed the possibility of walking on at Auburn, but those plans are now on hold as the Tigers change coaching personnel.

"I am not sure what is going to happen with that yet," said Polk. "Now that Coach (Gus) Malzahn is there, I am not sure what is going to happen.

"Coach Ellis Johnson is now the defensive coordinator, but he never recruited me at Southern (Miss).

"I will just have to wait and see if they contact me and if they have a plan for me."

Mississippi State and Ole Miss have also been in touch recently.

"I had an in home with Mississippi State with Coach (Greg) Knox," said Polk. "They want me to walk on.

"They have already filled most of their spots and they are only taking one linebacker and they one committed.

"Ole Miss is a little different. They say they are going to take two linebackers, but that number has fluctuated back and forth between two and three.

"They have may a December graduate not come or something like that, so it looks like my best chance for a scholarship may be Ole Miss."
