Dog Open October With Non-Conference Romp

The second-ever meeting of SEC and SWAC schools was much more competitive than the first. But ultimately Mississippi State was able to notch its second such inter-league success by defeating visiting Alcorn State 49-16 at Scott Field. The host Bulldogs improved to 3-2 overall while the visiting Braves left 3-1.

Not without a fair fight, though. Alcorn State gave State a significantly stiffer test in 2010 than SWAC cohort Jackson State did a year ago, losing 45-7 in the first contest of these conferences. And while superior size and skill lent Mississippi State advantages that were sure to tell the Bulldogs took advantage of something fresh for this season. Big plays. Lots of them.
