The Bulldogs were indeed better, as their coach had said. Whether the expected victory is evidence Mississippi State is prepared now to play a better level of competition remains the real issue for Rick Stansbury. “It’s kind of like starting over again,” he said following a 75-50 win over visiting Texas-Pan American.   Full Story

The ‘these’ being by implication early-season guests that Mississippi State scheduled as victories to prepare them for the meat of the 2009-10 season. STARKVILLE, Miss. - All-SEC center forward Jarvis Varnado swatted 4 shots to become the Southeastern Conference's all-time leading shot-blocker as Mississippi State (2-1) cruised to a 67-51 victory against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats Saturday evening in Humphrey Coliseum.   Full Story

For that matter Jarvis Varnado wasn’t making too much of his 20-point outing against Southeastern Louisiana. Because the highlight of Mississippi State’s season-opening event turned out to be the pre-game ceremony with rings presented to the 2009 SEC Tournament champions.
