Outfielder/Infielder Jason Hicks of Hinds CC
Jason Hicks Profile Page "Mississippi State, Southern (Miss) and Delta State are showing interest in me," said the junior college All-State selection. He had a chance to meet with a couple of the Mississippi State baseball coaches in January. "I went to Mississippi State in January for an unofficial visit while at a basketball game," said the 5-11, 185-pounder. "I talked to (assistant coaches) Butch Thompson and Lane Burroughs. I also talked to them some in the spring but I haven't talked to them this summer. They told me that they would be watching me my two years at Hinds. If I did well, then they would, hopefully, show some interest." While he hasn't visited Southern Miss, his head coach has kept him updated about their interest. "Southern is checking on me through Coach (Sam) Temple," said the youngster. His versatility is what schools like about him. "Coach Temple told me that the schools like me due to my versatility," said Jason. " I played in the outfield this year but I have also played shortstop as well." He's also an excellent hitter who showed solid power at the plate. "Offensively, I think I'm a pretty good hitter, hit for average and power, more gap to gap," said Jason, who, in the three-spot in the lineup, hit .353 with 14 doubles, two triples, eight home runs and 46 RBI this past season. Another excellent tool of his, in addition to his versatility and hitting, is a strong arm. "I played right field and I think I had 13 or so assists this year," said Jason, who throws from the right side. As for which school he would prefer to sign with, he has one in mind but he's completely open to any other school. "Mississippi State would be my best option but I would like to go to any four-year, Division-I school," said the former Brandon High School baseball player. And with another season like his freshman year, don't be surprised if he winds up with the option to play on the D-I level.
