He explained why he decided to go ahead and commit.
"It just felt like that was the place I wanted to go," said the 6-0, 180-pounder. "I like the coaches there and I know some of the kids who are going there that is coming out of my class. I have been playing against them or I've seen them play. I just felt comfortable going to Mississippi State."
The coach recruiting him for Mississippi State is assistant coach Lane Burroughs.
"I called Coach Burroughs today and he was really excited because he thought I was going to make him wait a little longer," said Demarcus with a laugh.
With his commitment now in the books, he can look forward to getting back to playing baseball. And spending time with two future teammates, Mississippi State commitments Chase Lewallen and Taylor Stark.
All three were selected by Major League Baseball scouts to play on the Padres team in the very prestigious East Coast Pro Showcase from July 31st through August 4th in Lakeland, Florida.
Demarcus sees it as a chance for them to bond and form chemistry.
"I have been playing against Chase since I was in the 9th grade, and I know Taylor a little bit," said Demarcus, who PGcrosschecker.com rates as the nation's 138th best prospect in the class of 2010 as well as the 2nd best prospect in the state of Mississippi. "It's probably going to be fun with them on the team because we will probably hang out a lot and get to know each other. We'll probably end up being roommates in school."
Demarcus is Mississippi State's 9th commitment in the class of 2010.
