STARKVILLE - Mississippi State head football coach Dan Mullen and his staff will host the 2009 Ladies Football Clinic on Saturday, June 20, and more than 150 women have already signed up to take part in the day-long event.
"We’re excited to have such a good early registration, but there’s still plenty of room available," Mullen said. "This should be a really fun-filled, hands-on day of learning the same techniques and strategies that we use to instruct our players."
The clinic will begin with registration in the Palmeiro Center at 8 a.m. followed by coaching and interaction with Mullen, assistant coaches and players. There will also be question-and-answer sessions with Megan Mullen and other coaches’ wives, current coaches and players. Participating ladies will also receive on-field instruction and a behind-the-scenes look at the locker room and other football facilities.

Track & Field
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State placed six track and field athletes on the 2009 USTFCCCA All-American team, MSU coach Al Schmidt announced on Monday.
On the men’s side, freshman D’Angelo Cherry and Junior Dwight Mullings received all-American status in two events. Cherry, a native of Jonesboro, Ga., was recognized for his achievements in the 100-meter dash and the 4x100-meter relay, while Mullings, a product of Jamaica, was noted for the 4x100 relay and 400-meter dash.
Justin Christian and John Bailey joined them on the 4x100-meter relay team, which finished fourth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships this past weekend after clocking a school-record time of 39.06.
Also tabbed all-American was sophomore Emanuel Mayers, who garnered his accolade following his time of 50.06 in the 400-meter hurdles.
On the women’s side, senior Marrissa Harris of Memphis joined Cherry and Mullings as a multiple winner, earning all-American honors in the 100-meter hurdles and the heptathlon.
She scored the Lady Bulldogs’ lone point at the NCAAs, where she finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles. In the heptathlon, she placed 10th with a school-record 5,625 points, breaking her old mark of 5,600 set in 2008 when she won the SEC title.
"These awards were earned for what they did on the track," said Schmidt, whose men’s team finished tied for 17th at the NCAAs. "No one votes on them. You have to go out and earn them yourself. I’m very proud of each one for what they accomplished. They are all very deserving and great ambassadors for our university."

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State University has signed
right-handed all-state pitcher Jared Miller of Sumrall, Miss., to a
baseball scholarship, head baseball coach John Cohen announced this
week.
Miller is a 6-4, 215-pound right-handed pitcher/first baseman who
helped lead coach Larry Knight’s Sumrall High School Bobcats to a 36-0
mark and a second straight 3A state championship. A two-time all-area
and all-district selection, Miller was honored as the Mississippi 3A
Player of the Year. Sumrall finished its 2009 season with a No. 8
national ranking by Baseball America.
"Jared has established himself as a winner both on and off the
field," said MSU pitching coach Butch Thompson. "He has been trained
well at Sumrall High School by one of high school baseball’s top
pitching coaches, Larry Knight, and brings the potential to be a power
arm on our staff. After finishing his career unbeaten, it’s easy to
see that Jared has a winning mentality."
The right-hander compiled a 24-0 record his last three seasons at SHS,
including an 11-0 mark with a 1.66 earned run average in 2009. He paced
the Bobcats’ pitching staff in 2009 with 106 strikeouts over 67-1/3
innings. Miller was voted team MVP and selected as a Crossroad Diamond
Club All-Star. He also posted a .414 batting average and established a
school single-season record with 14 home runs.
Miller compiled a 7-0 record with a 3.06 ERA as a junior, helping guide
Sumrall High School to a 32-6 record and the 2008 3A state championship,
and fashioned a 6-0 pitching mark in 2007.
He is a special honors graduate of SHS, where he was a four-year member
of the Beta Club and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. He played
summer league baseball in 2008 with the Louisiana Elite team coached by
Chad Raley, and this summer with coach Mark Herrington’s Hub City
Bombers.
Miller is the son of Cindy and Micah Miller of Sumrall, Miss.
Softball
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State junior catcher Chelsea Bramlett has been named to the United States Softball Women’s National Team, and former Bulldog Courtney Bures will represent the U.S. at the Japan Cup, USA Softball announced Monday afternoon.
Bramlett, a three-time NFCA First Team All-American, will represent the U.S. beginning July 4-12 in the prestigious Canada Cup in Surrey, British Columbia.
Following her international softball debut, Bramlett will travel with the Red, White and Blue squad to Oklahoma City where it will vie for a third-straight KFC World Cup of Softball championship. The July 16-20 event will be broadcast in over 140 countries by ESPN.
The Cordova, Tenn., native will close out her first international experience July 31-Aug. 9, playing in the Pan American Qualifier in Maracay, Venezuela.
Bures, a two-time NFCA all-American during her MSU career (2005-08), will travel to Sendai, Japan, as part of the Team USA contingent that will participate in the Japan Cup.
"This is an outstanding opportunity for both Chelsea and Courtney to represent their country on an international stage," MSU and USA National Team head coach Jay Miller said. "They are very deserving of this honor, and I look forward to being able to watch them represent Mississippi State and the United States this summer."
Bramlett earned the selection following a 2009 campaign in which she led the Southeastern Conference in batting average and stolen bases. The First Team All-SEC catcher’s school-record 54 steals also topped NCAA Division I. Bramlett took over the career lead in both batting average and steals this season en route to helping MSU to an eighth NCAA Tournament appearance.
Bures’ Japan Cup squad selection will be her second time to represent the United States. The Haymarket, Va., native, who finished her stellar four-year Mississippi State career tops in RBI, played under Miller on the 2006 World University Games team that won the gold medal in Taiwan.
Soccer
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Eight home matches and an 11-game Southeastern
Conference slate highlight Mississippi State’s 2009 women’s soccer
schedule announced this week by head coach Neil Macdonald.
The Bulldogs open the 2009 campaign Aug. 23, hosting NCAA Tournament
competitor Mississippi Valley State in a 1 p.m. match at the MSU Soccer
Field.
State will also host Troy and East Tennessee State Sept. 11 and 13,
respectively, before closing out the non-conference portion of the
schedule with a trip to Jacksonville, Fla., to meet North Florida and
Florida Gulf Coast.
"This is going to be a challenging schedule with almost half of our
matches coming against teams that went to the NCAA Tournament last
season," Macdonald said. "We are facing some very good clubs in the
non-conference season, and their differing styles of play will help
prepare us for an always-challenging SEC schedule. Our team made
tremendous strides during the spring, and with a talented group of
freshman coming in, we are very excited heading into the season."
MSU kicks off the Southeastern Conference portion of its schedule Sept.
25 and 27, hosting Western Division foes Auburn and Alabama,
respectively.
Macdonald’s squad remains at home the next weekend, welcoming Sweet
16 participant Florida on Oct. 2 and another NCAA Tournament team, South Carolina, on Oct. 4.
Following the four-match home stand to open SEC play, the Bulldogs hit
the road for matches against Tennessee (Oct. 9), Georgia (Oct. 11),
Arkansas (Oct. 16), LSU (Oct. 18) and Vanderbilt (Oct. 22).
State hosts Kentucky on Oct. 25 before closing out the regular season
at in-state rival Ole Miss (Oct. 30).
The Bulldogs, who return eight starters and 14 letterwinners from last
year’s squad, play all home matches at the MSU Soccer Field. MSU’s
Friday home matches begin at 7 p.m., while Sunday’s matches kick-off
at 1 p.m.
