According to media relations contact Joe Galbraith, Mississippi State is reporting its own findings to the SEC commissioner today. And, the actions that Mississippi State will be taking. Summarized, they are:
*MSU will discuss rules regarding the use of 'outside consultants' at practices with the coaches of all State sports.
*First-year head football coach Dan Mullen will be admonished by the University regarding this incident.
*Sherrill will not atttend other State football practices.
The incident occurred when Sherrill, who had come to observe practice that, participated in a pre-practice session involving placekicking. The former head coach spent the rest of the session either in a golf cart with an administrative assitant watching from a distance or speaking with sideline observers and did not involve himself in any other aspects of practice.
Based on case history, the incident would rise only to the level of a 'secondary' violation of NCAA rules on on-field staff size and practices.
Mississippi State concluded Coach Mullen's first spring camp this past Saturday with the Maroon-White game played before a MSU-record official crowd of 31,606. Mullen, and members of the athletic department and University staff, will begin the 17-stop 'Road Dawgs Tour' on April 27 with a meeting in Memphis.
