Heath Hutchins, a sophomore from Saltillo who signed recently with Mississippi State, led the nation in punting with a 46 yard average after finishing sixth in the country a year ago with nearly a 42 yard average.
Pernell McPhee, a sophomore pre-season All-American defensive end from Pahokee, Fla., led the MACJC in sacks for the second year in a row with 13.5 in eight games and in tackles for a loss (23.5) after recording 19.5 sacks last season and 37 tackles for a loss.
Both Hutchins and McPhee were named first-team all-Region 23 and all-North Division last month. In fact, McPhee, who was a second-team All-American selection a year ago by the NJCAA and J.C. Grid-Wire Magazine, was named the defensive lineman of the year in the division for the second straight season.
