MARYVILLE, Tenn. - Senior Robert Scribner led the Mississippi State Cross Country men’s team to a sixth-place finish at the NCAA South Regionals on Saturday and qualified for the 2008 NCAA National Championships, which will be held in Terre Haute, Ind. on November 24.

The women, behind another strong finish from freshmen Renee Masterson, placed 16th in the 6K run.

Scribner, who becomes the first MSU male runner to advance to the nationals, finished 13th overall in the 10K event with a time of 31:39.48. Adam Lenz finished second for the Bulldogs with a time of 32:13.10. Both Scribner and Lenz earned All-South Regional Honors.

On the women’s side, Masterson posted a time of 22:50.07. Finishing second for the Lady Bulldogs was Dominique Lockhart with a time of 23:02.63, followed by Anais DeChamps in 23:22.86.

"On the men’s side we had a great day," Coach Al Schmidt said. "Robert Scribner ran a great race and qualified for Nationals. It was good that we were able to edge out East Tennessee State by one point for the sixth place spot."

The NCAA Regional Meet concluded the MSU team’s cross country season. The Indoor track season for the Lady Bulldogs begins in January.
