The playoffs are in full swing now. Many players' seasons are coming to an end, while others have taken another step towards a state championship.

Tyler Russell strengthened his case for Mr. Football on Friday night. Tyler had a hand in eight touchdowns in a 55-24 blowout win over George County.

Russell was 20 of 24 for 413 yards including six more touchdown passes and he ran for two others. For the season Tyler has completed 72% of his passes for 2,725 yards 34 touchdowns against just five INTs. He has also scored seven times on the ground.

Chris Smith found himself on the business end of seven Tyler Russell passes. Smith reeled in 145 yards and two touchdowns on the night.

Meridian will travel to Hattiesburg next week in the south state semi-finals.

Montez Phillips threw a 17 yard touchdown pass as Lafayette County ended Pearl's dream season 10-7 in overtime.

The Commodores will play Shannon in the 3rd round this Friday.

Jonathan Banks showed out against Shaw. The East Webster standout threw for one touchdown, rushed for three more and returned an interception for a touchdown as the Wolverines rolled over Shaw 59-7.

East Webster will play Calhoun City next week.

Deontae Skinner and Noxubee County gave up a season high 14 points, but managed to advance to the 3rd round with a 28-14 won over William Shumpert and IAHS.

The Tigers will take on a surprising New Hope team next week in the north state semi-finals.

Cameron Lawrence's quest for a second state title ended today when Washington ambushed the Chiefs 26-7.

Josh Boyd and Philadelphia were upset by Bassfield 18-7 in one of the most surprising outcomes of the evening.

Josh Hollingsworth and Hamilton remained perfect on the season by easing past West Morgan 17-14. The Aggies set a school single season record on Friday by recording their 12th victory against no losses.

Josh entered the game with 1,920 passing yards 17 passing touchdowns, 340 rushing yards and six rushing scores.

The Aggies take on Colbert County in the 3rd round next Friday.

Anthony Rogers saw his state title dreams come to an end on Friday as North Little Rock fell to Springdale Har-Ber 37-31.

Montrell Conner and Ouachita ran by Sulphur 21-0 to advance to the second round.

Chris White and Gulf Coast have earned a berth in the Mississippi Bowl on December 6th. Their opponent has yet to be determined.

Nickoe Whitley, Heath Hutchins, Pernell McPhee, Gabriel Jackson, Sam Watts and Fletcher Cox have already completed their seasons.
