Relaxing

We all take time to relax. So, what do Mississippi State football players do to relax when away from the field of play?

Dominic Douglas

Mary Ann and I see you at the theater quite a bit. What is it about the theater? Is it your way to get away from it all and just relax?
"It allows me to relax and get my mind off the game, get my mind off football and life in general. I become a movie critic (laugh)."

What type movies do you enjoy watching?
"There aren't many movies that I don't like. I like comedies, tragedies, action, dramas, scary ... anything. I'll even watch chick flicks (laugh). I just like to go to the movies to watch movies."

Are there any movies that you don't enjoy watching?
"I don't like the demon type movies, the Omen type movies and Exorcist type movies, because that kind of messes with my spirit a little bit. Those have too much evil in them for me. Other than that, I'll watch any movie."

You say you enjoy just about all type movies, but is there any type you enjoy the most?
"Scary movies. I do like them."

Why?
"It's just something that will jump out at you. And if you have a date she'll hold onto your arm. It makes you feel good about your manhood (laugh)."

When do you go to the theater - afternoon, evening, midnight?
"I like to go in the afternoon, but most of the time I go to the 7 or 9 o'clock movie. I try not to go to the midnight movie because I'm the kind of person who tries to go to sleep around 10 o'clock."

Have you always enjoyed going to the movies or is it something that started once you got to Mississippi State?
"When I was little my mom and dad always went to the movies and carried me. Almost every weekend we went to the movies. I think that's why I like going to the movies. I don't look at it as a tradition, but a way to have some fun."

What was the last movie you saw?
"The last movie I saw was The Family That Preys by Tyler Perry."

What did you think about it?
"It was a real good movie. But to be honest with you, I was kind of hot in that movie. I got mad."

Why did you get mad?
"Just what went on in the movie. The character that the woman played in the movie cheated on her husband."

Have there been any recent movies that you had high hopes for that weren't as good as you hoped?
"I had high hopes for the Will Smith movie, Hancock. I thought it was going to be an extraordinary movie. It was an alright movie, but I had real high expectations for that movie."

What upcoming movie are you looking forward to watching?
"The football movie, The Express. I think it's going to be a real good movie. Ernie Davis won the Heisman (Trophy). So, I think that's going to be a real good movie."

Is going to the movie your main source of entertainment or just one of several things you do for fun?
"It's one of my main sources, but I like watching football games. I'll watch college, high school and the NFL. I really have a wide variety of things I like doing."

What are some other things you enjoy doing?
"I like to hang out with my family, play pool, go bowling ... kid things. I just, basically, like to have fun."

Are you unique among the football players as far as going to the movies?
"I think I'm unique, but really, on occasion, a lot of us get together and go to a movie. But I believe I go to the movies more than anybody else on the team."

Brandon McRae

Off the field, what do you do to relax?
"I like playing video games, watching movies, renting movies. I'm a big video game fan. I like to play video games online against other people. I also enjoy watching football games and game film trying to study my opponent."

What type video games do you enjoy playing?
"I like playing NBA Live, NCAA. But I'm really a Call Of Duty guy which is like an army game."

How good are you at video games?
"I'm pretty good. I'm at the top. When my friends and I play against each other, I'm the guy who is hard to beat. I always want to be the best at whatever I do, so I try extra hard. We receivers are competitive at everything. We hate losing."

How long have you been playing video games?
"Ever since I was little. I've been playing ever since I got my hand-eye coordination."

You mention that you enjoy watching movies. Do you go to the theater or rent movies or both?
"I go to the movies a lot, but I go to Blockbuster about every other day."

What kind of movies do you enjoy?
"It doesn't matter. I'll watch anything. I just like watching movies. Usually, I know what is going to happen before the movie has even ended.

"Besides watching movies, I also enjoy listening to music. Sometimes I don't have the tv on, I'm just sitting in my room listening to music and throwing the football up in the air."

What kind of music do you like?
"I'm an R&B type person. I listen to Rap mainly before the games, but that's about it. But when I'm at home I listen to R&B and gospel."

Who are your favorite singers?
"I like Trey Songz and Usher. I also like Marvin Sapp who has the song Never Would Have Made It. I also like Kirk Franklin."

Wade Bonner

Off the field, what do you do to relax?
"I watch tv a lot and read the Bible. I don't go out too much. I'm just laid back."

What are your favorite tv shows?
"Mostly football, but I'll watch all type shows. Whatever comes on tv I'll watch."

Derek Pegues

What do you do as enjoyment when you aren't playing football?
"Really, I like to sit around and play games. I like to play dominoes a lot. I also play video games a lot. Besides that, I really like to catch a football game when it comes to tv. Really, I like to chill and relax when I'm away from football."

Why dominoes? To me that almost seems like an old man's game.
"You would be surprised because a lot of guys on the team play dominoes. (Keith) Fitzhugh plays, AJ (Anthony Johnson) plays. I think we really started my freshman year. And everybody has picked it up and tried to learn how to play. It's really exciting when you get a lot of guys playing."

Dominoes is exciting?
"Yeah, dominoes is exciting. It teases your brain a little bit and helps us relax a lot."

Why not chess instead of dominoes?
"Chess is too hard. I really haven't played chess and don't really know how to play it. If anything it would be checkers, not chess (laugh)."

Did you play dominoes in high school?
"Yeah, I've been playing dominoes since high school. A lot of my teammates played - Jamarcus (Sanford), Peria (Jerry), we all played a lot. I don't know how I got hooked on playing it, but I just love to play it.

"Besides that, I also love to play video games a lot. I'll go over to B-Mac's (Brandon McRae) house and play the game with them a lot."

Brandon said he's pretty good at video games. Is he pretty good?
"Yeah, he's pretty good, but he can't beat me. I think I'm the best in the game. I'm the game guru (laugh)."

When it's wide receivers playing against the defensive backs on the video games is it a little more competitive?
"Oh yeah, oh yeah, when we are going against each other it gets real intense, (laugh) sometimes we almost get to fighting. But it's all in fun, no hard feelings afterwards. You know how we talk smack all during the game."

So, you even talk smack during video games?
"Oh yeah, you have to. We'll be playing NCAA Football game and one will be playing with Mississippi State and the other with somebody like Arkansas, LSU or Georgia. And we really try to shut each other down. It's bragging rights when you come to the field house the next day and you can brag to everybody on the team that you beat the best. I think it's a lot of competition in whatever we do."

Would you say you are the superstar on the team when it comes to dominoes?
"Yeah, I think I'm the superstar in dominoes and on the video games Madden and the NCAA. Can't anybody beat me in either one of those."

Ok, removing you from the mix, who is the best dominoes player on the team?
"I would have to say Anthony Johnson. He can play pretty good. He can beat me ever now and then, but not too often."

Can anybody else beat you at dominoes?
"Fitzh beat me a couple of times. He's pretty good in dominoes, too.

"But they just get a little lucky. They get good hands. That's the only way they can beat me."

So, you are just having a bad day when they beat you, right? (laugh)
"Yeah, just a bad day (laugh)."
