Dixon Possible For Saturday Start At Tech

The handful of media awaiting Coach Sylvester Croom after Thursday's practice only had one question. And the head Bulldog had a quick answer regarding the status of halfback Anthony Dixon for this weekend's game at Georgia Tech. "If he's ready to go, he'll start."

Dixon, who strained a groin one week ago today, missed the first three practice days of this week while re-habbing the groin. He did come out to practice Tuesday-Wednesday but only to ride the bike and pull a weight sled.

Today, though, Dixon came out in a limited-yellow shirt and participated in some drills. "He looked OK," Croom said. "We didn't have pads on, that's what I'm worried about; how he's going to look with pads on. Yeah, I'm concerned, the guy hasn't practiced all week. But he ran around OK today."

OK being as much of an evaluation as Mississippi State's staff will have to go on, because there will be no Friday practice. The Bulldogs will fly out of G.T.R. around 2:00 and arrive at their hotel in Atlanta by 6:00 for team dinner and meetings. So because Dixon did participate in Thursday work, he is tentatively booked for duty when State kicks off against Georgia Tech at noon E.T.

"There's no way he can be as sharp as he normally is," Croom said. "But we're better with him than without him."

Dixon is tied for the MSU career touchdowns record with 27, and second in career rushing touchdowns with 25.
