STARKVILLE, Miss. - One week after claiming top honors at the Sewanee Invitational, the men’s and women’s Mississippi State cross country teams were picked to finish sixth and ninth this year in the SEC, respectively, as voted on by the league’s coaches.

Alabama took top honors on the men’s side after capturing seven first-place votes, while Arkansas was selected to finish first on the women’s side with nine votes.

This past weekend at Sewanee, Tenn., the Bulldogs had five runners place in the Top 5, with senior Robert Scribner (Tupelo, Miss.) posting a first-place finish time of 25:40.20 seconds. The Lady Bulldogs, led by freshman Renee Masterson’s third-place run of 18:17.12, had four Top 10 finishers.

Both teams are back in action on Sept. 20 at the MSU Invitational in Starkville. Mississippi State will also host the 2008 SEC Cross Country Championships on Nov. 3.
