Nick Turner Suspended From MSU Football Team

Posted Oct 22, 2002

STARKVILLE, Miss. Mississippi State freshman tailback Nick Turner has been suspended from the football team, Bulldog head coach Jackie Sherrill announced Tuesday.

Turner, a Parade All-America prep running back from Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, Ga., was arrested late Monday for the possession of counterfeit currency. He had played in the first four games of the 2002 season for MSU, but suffered a foot injury at LSU and has not played since.

Turner traveled with the team to Memphis this past Saturday, but did not dress for the Bulldogs' 29-17 win over the Tigers.

In four games, Turner had rushed eight times for 31 yards (3.6-yard average) and caught five passes for 59 yards (11.8). He had also returned four punts for 46 yards (11.5) and five kickoffs for 134 yards (26.8).
