STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State senior tight end Eric Butler (Moss Point, Miss.) has been named to the 2007 John Mackey Award watch list, as released by the Nassau County Sports Commission.

The Mackey Award, given annually to the nation’s top tight end, is named in honor of the National Football League Hall of Fame member who was a role model on and off the field.

Butler, a 6-3, 255-pounder, has played in 32 games at State, starting 23 times at the tight end position. He has made 42 career catches for 564 yards, a 13.4-yard average, and eight touchdowns. Butler holds the school’s single-season and career touchdown receiving records for a tight end.

Butler is one of four tight ends on the list from the Southeastern Conference.
