SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador - Mississppi State 's Golden Coachman claimed gold in the men's 800-meter run at the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association's (NACAC) Senior Championships late Saturday night.

The Birmingham, Ala. - native clocked a time of one minute, 49.01 seconds to claim medalist honors. He was 27-tenths of a second faster than the silver medalist Pablo Solares of Mexico. With his gold medal at the NACA Championships, Coachman becomes the first MSU track student athlete since Dion Crabbe won gold at the Central America and Caribbean Games in 2003.

Coachman's gold medal is one of 15 first-place finishes by the United States team at the 32-country event. The NACAC is comprised of 32 member countries and approximately 500 athletes are on hand competing in the championships. The NACAC is affiliated with the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF).
