Wilbourn Talks About His 1st Offer
Bruce Wilbourn Profile Page: Bruce received his first offer last week. And he couldn't be happier ... or relieved. "It was very exciting and it felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders," said Bruce, of his Southern Miss offer. But Bruce may not have been the most excited person. Coach Johnson, who has spent a lot of time and effort helping his kids get their names known to college coaches and the recruiting media, was pretty excited himself. "I believe Coach Johnson was the most excited," said Bruce, with a slight laugh. But Bruce also understands where the excitement is coming from. "Coach Johnson has taken those extra steps to get our names out there," noted Bruce, who, along with his teammates, have been taken to numerous camps and combines by Coach Johnson, even as far away as the US Army Junior Combine in San Antonio, Texas. "He has meant a lot to us. I really appreciate him." Bruce talked about the steps leading up to the official offer. "(Coach Johnson) told us that (the Southern Miss' coaches) were going to look at Temp's (teammate Templeton Hardy) and my film. And a day or two later he told us that they watched it and liked what they saw and that they might offer me. Then, at the beginning of the next week, he called me and told me that they had offered me." And there's a possibility that this may be one of several more offers that may be headed Bruce's way, at least based on what he was told at a couple of college football camps that he's attended this summer. "I've been to a few college camps. I've been to Ole Miss and UAB," said Bruce. "The coaches that I talked to at the camps said I looked good and that I would hear from them soon." With one offer in the books, Bruce is waiting to hear from several other schools, including the schools that are currently at the top of his recruiting list. "The teams that I like are Southern Miss, Alabama, Arkansas, Mississippi State, LSU, Louisiana Tech and Tulane," he noted. "But I'm open to any other schools." Keep it on Scout.com to find out which school Bruce's next offer will come from.
