Hinds CC Class of 2008 Prospects

Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi has several players who are receiving looks from four-year colleges.

  • Carlos Meeks (Linebacker, 6-2, 230, 4.75) - Played his high school ball at Provine High School in Jackson, Mississippi. Has the size coaches are looking for in a linebacker. After wearing uniform number 35 last year, will wear number 14 this coming season. A full-time starter last season. Has four favorite schools - Ole Miss, LSU, Texas and Georgia. Currently claims no offers.

  • Carlos Everett (Wide receiver, 6-1.5, 194, 4.4) - Played his high school ball at South Sumter HS in Bushnell, Florida. Carlos was a full-time starter for Hinds CC as a freshman. After wearing number 23 last season, will wear number 3 this coming year. Signed with North Carolina State out of high school, but has re-opened his recruitment due to the change in coaching staffs. Has four schools on his radar screen at the moment - Florida, Miami (FL), Clemson and Georgia Tech. Currently claims no offers.

  • Chris Mixon (Linebacker, 6-2, 230, 4.55) - Played his high school ball at Porters Chapel Academy in Vicksburg, Mississippi. A part-time starter as a freshman at Hinds CC. Has a great combination of size and speed for the linebacker position. Currently favors LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Alabama and Auburn. Currently claims no offers. A qualifier out of high school who will be able to sign with a four-year school in December, 2007.

  • Marcell Young (Free safety, 6-1, 182, 4.45) - Played his high school ball at Hinds AHS in Utica, Mississippi. Wore 27 last season, but will wear uniform number 7 this coming season. A part-time starter last season. Has the size and speed combination coaches look for in a safety. Currently favors Southern Miss, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Alabama. Has no offers at this time.

  • Anthony Mayes (Wide receiver, 5-9, 160, 4.5) - Played his prep football at Hinds AHS in Utica, Mississippi. After wearing uniform 25 last season, will wear number 5 this coming season. Very good speed for the WR position. Also returned kicks and punts. A full-time starter last season. His favorites consist of Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Alabama, Memphis, Southern Miss and Louisiana-Lafayette. Currently has no offers.

  • Otis Stamps (Cornerback, 5-10, 175, 4.52) - Played his high school football at Warren Central High School in Vicksburg, Mississippi. A full-time starter last season. Tied for the league lead in interceptions with six. Solid size and good speed for the cornerback position. Currently lists Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Memphis and Alabama as his favorite schools. Currently has no offers.

  • Darrius Jones (Cornerback, 5-8, 175, 4.4) - Prepped at Grenada (MS) High School. Has the speed to play cornerback on the next level. Started the last two games of the year last season. Wore uniform 15 last year, but will wear number 1 this coming season. Currently has Ole Miss, Memphis, Jackson State, Southern Miss and Mississippi State at the top of his list. Has no offers at this time.

  • Terrence Barnes (Quarterback, 6-1, 165, 4.6) - Played his high school ball at Callaway High School in Jackson, Mississippi. Started the last four games for Hinds CC. Very mobile quarterback. Currently lists Southern Miss, Jackson State, Vanderbilt, Mississippi State, Memphis, LSU and Central Florida as his top schools. Has no offers at this time.

  • Joshua Weems (Left offensive tackle, 6-4, 260, 4.9) - Played his high school football at Jim Hill High School in Jackson, Mississippi. After wearing number 81 last season, Joshua will wear number 55 this coming season. A full-time starter at tight end last season, but has since been moved to offensive tackle. Currently list his favorites as LSU, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Memphis. Has no offers as of now.

  • Derek Newton (Right offensive tackle, 6-5, 305) - Played his high school ball at Hinds AHS in Utica, Mississippi. Played a lot as a freshman. Has excellent size for the right tackle position. Currently lists Ole Miss, Mississippi College, Southern Miss, Mississippi State and Memphis as schools he likes. Currently has no offers.

  • Jamarious Jones (Defensive tackle, 6-3, 300) - Played his high school ball at Hinds AHS in Utica, Mississippi. Played quite a bit as a freshman. Has the size college coaches are looking for in a defensive tackle. Although there is no doubt that he has the talent to play on the next level, due to his academics Jamarious told me he will have to play the next level at D-II or D-III.
