STARKVILLE, Miss. - Senior Amanda Mathis was one of three individuals selected to the NCAA Women's Golf East Regional, announced on Monday by the NCAA. Mathis will join two other individuals and 21 teams in competition May 10-12 at the University Club in Baton Rouge, La.

Despite the Lady Bulldogs missing postseason play for the first time since 2004, Mathis will compete in a regional for the third consecutive season. In 2005 at the East Regional in Gainesville, Fla., Mathis posted a 221 on her way to a tie for 19th finish. Last season, Mathis fired a 225 and finished in a tie for 44th at the East Regional in Browns Summit, N.C.

This season, the Picayune, Miss., native led MSU in six of nine tournaments, highlighted by winning an individual title at the Wildcat Invitational last fall in Lexington, Ky. Mathis led the team with a 76.00 stroke average and is coming off a tie for 14th finish at the SEC Championship.

"This is an excellent opportunity for Amanda to play her way into the National Championship on a golf course she is very familiar with and that suits her golf game," said MSU head coach Christi Sanders. "She finished second there this spring playing against many of the top players in the nation. She also has the lowest career round at MSU with a 67 that she scored on this same particular golf course in 2005."

The top-eight teams from each of the three regionals and top two individuals not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championships May 22-25 at the LPGA International Course in Daytona Beach, Fla.
