Stewart, hailing from Shelbyville, Tenn., also notched his career-high in points during the contest, along with two steals and three rebounds. Sophomore Richard Delk and all-SEC selection Jamont Gordon contributed 14 and 12 points, respectively, for the victors. Gordon also dished out eight assists and pulled down six rebounds on the evening.
Leading the Hurricanes was guard Jack McClinton, hitting 6-of-15 from the field good for a team-high 16 points.
Trailing at halftime 39-22, Miami quickly stormed out on a 16-3 run, cutting the Bulldog lead down to seven points. However, MSU responded by pulling off a 12-2 run of their own to help solidify the victory.
The triumph moved coach Rick Stansbury into sole possession of second place on State's all-time win list. Also of note, State's SEC-leading three-point defense held Miami to only four made three-point attempts out of 21, or 19 percent. Monday night's loss also marked Miami's first setback in their current home arena.
MSU now travels back home to Starkville to host McNeese State Saturday. That affair is set for a 2 p.m. start at Humphrey Coliseum and will be televised by SportSouth-TV.
