Tell the folks on Gene's Page a little about yourself, Reggie.
"I am going to be a redshirt sophomore this fall. I am 5-11, 215, play deep snapper - that is my primary position - and linebacker. I love playing linebacker whether I'm on scout team or whatever. I just love to hit people. I love football and I love this team. But, most importantly, I love God. My foremost mission on this team is to bring the love of Christ through my behavior and my ways and actions. I'm trying to do my part to bring this team closer together."
Do you feel you accomplished what you wanted to this past spring?
"Yes sir, I feel I did. I have seniors in front of me. I respect that they are seniors. I feel I made an impression on the coaches this spring. I worked very hard, physically and mentally. God has really blessed me. If I can just make the travel squad, that will be a step up from last year. If I get on the travel squad, I will feel that God has really blessed me and will have increased my platform. Next year, hopefully, I will be starting. And I feel that I will be through God's grace and God's will."
You are here for the second summer session. What are you trying to achieve?
"Physically, I'm trying to increase my speed and, more importantly, my strength. I want to get up to a solid 220. With (MSU strength coach Mike) Grant's workout, which is superior, I feel that I can achieve that. If I can gain weight and increase my speed, then this summer will have been very beneficial to me."
What are you hoping for this season?
"If we win that first game (Oregon), we are going to the national championship. The national championship is within our grasp. We have Tennessee on our schedule. We have LSU on our schedule. We have Auburn on our schedule. All of those teams are in the BCS rankings. If we beat those teams, the possibilities are endless. If we come together as a team - we have the talent, the size, the speed, the brains, some of the best coaches in the nation - the possibilities are endless."
Man, a guy can get really excited about the upcoming season talking to you, Reggie.
"I am just positive. God said this, 'if you doubt, you do with doubt'. If you sum it up in words, what the bible says, 'if you doubt, you do with doubt'. I have faith that our possibilities are endless as a team. I love this team. Man, we are going to go a long way. I am going to try and do my part, whatever it might be.
"I hope and pray that my ex-teammate, (senior Noxubee County HS quarterback) Omar Conner, comes up here and joins me for next season (year 2003). I hope and pray that he comes here because this is a great environment. I am from Noxubee county and just love my county. I feel that Omar can really thrive with the program here. Omar can play any position that he likes. He is a great quarterback and he could play quarterback here, easily. I would just love to see him come here."
Thanks for the interview, Reggie.
