CLEMSON, S.C. - The Mississippi State University women's indoor track and field squad closed out their first weekend of competition on Saturday at the Clemson Invitational. Senior Zita Magloire won the mile run with a personal record time of 4 minutes, 57.93 seconds, while senior Jasmine Walls cleared 5-08 ¾ to set a new MSU school record in the high jump.

"Zita had an exceptional meet," said MSU head coach Al Schmidt. "She ran great in the 3000-meters in addition to the mile. We really dominated the distance events. Jasmines set a school record, and Liz (Grube) had a good meet. We took three spots in the 3000, and that was impressive. Where we have our talent is where we scored."

Magloire's time ranks fifth on the MSU all-time list in the event. In the 800-meter run, sophomore Andrea Wahlin and freshman Abbey Graham both posted top 10 finishes. Wahlin came in fifth (2:20.54), while Graham was ninth (2:24.86). Junior Liz Grube ran a personal best 5:08.92 in the mile run. State picked up much-needed points in the 3000-meter run with freshman Michelle Corrigan, Magloire and sophomore Annie Falor all crossing the line two-three-four. Junior Joy Griffith ran 10:46.23 to finish 10th in the event.

After advancing to the 60-meter dash finals yesterday, freshman Gabrielle Dillion finished 14th, while teammate Marrissa Harris ran 8.89 to take 11th in the 60-meter dash finals. Senior Lauren Johnson placed one spot behind Harris in 12th.

Freshman Janelle Finley jumped 36-06 ¼ to record the fifth-best time in school history. In the shot put, junior Nicola Wilson finished fourth in the shot put preliminaries to advance to the finals. In the finals, Wilson's 44-07 mark was good enough for fourth.

As a team, MSU finished fifth with 77 points. Alabama and Auburn took the top two positions. The Crimson Tide accumulated 121 points, while the Tigers had 87. Georgia Tech (85 ½) and Charlotte (78) finished ahead of State. Georgia (66 ½) and Virginia Tech (27) rounded out the competitors.

The Lady Bulldogs travel to Baton Rouge, La. on Friday for the LSU Invitational.
