Junior transfer Wade Martin capped off his stellar season earning all-Region honors with a 24th-place finish on the 10K course in 31
minutes, 20.44 seconds. Junior Travis McKay finished seconds behind Martin in 31:37.71 to take 28th overall.
"Wade and Travis had a tremendous race," said men's head coach Steve Dudley. "Travis was just a few seconds from making all-Region. That's a
huge positive for our team. Our men's program is getting better."
Sophomore John Brigham placed 74th (33:20.07), while a pair of juniors - Brandon Smith and Phillip Moore - took 84th and 88th, respectively.
As a team, the Bulldogs tallied 269 points to finish ninth overall. Conference rival Alabama (40) captured the regional title, while Florida State (47) of the Atlantic Coast Conference was second. Of other conference rivals running in Saturday's race, MSU finished ahead of Mississippi and Vanderbilt.
On the women's side, senior Zita Magloire paced the Lady Bulldogs. Magloire's 13th-place finish (21:20.95) on the 6K course garnered the
Tallahassee, Fla. native her first all-South Region honor. Freshman Michelle Corrigan took 30th in 22:05.27.
"Zita and Michelle ran well," said women's head coach Al Schmidt. "We're 10th in the region, and we were the fifth conference team to come
across. Overall, we've had a good year. It was a great race by Zita."
Of MState's five scorers, three were freshmen, including Corrigan. Brittany Detzel finished in 22:57.61 (72nd), while Abbey O'Connell was 92nd in 23:24.71. MSU's other scorer was junior Joy Griffith who finished just ahead of O'Connell in 90th with a time of 23:20.34.
The Lady Bulldogs accumulated 279 points en route to a 10th-place finish. Conference schools Tennessee (76) and Georgia (98) took the top
two spots. State finished ahead of SEC schools Alabama, Auburn and Mississippi.
