"This is a gigantic day for Mississippi State University's track and field program," Dudley said. "It's big for us to sign one of the most
talented track and field athletes ever to come out of the state of Mississippi. We look forward to working with Trell. Hopefully, we can
lead him to a Southeastern Conference and national championship. We appreciate his commitment not only to MSU but to the entire state."
Last season, Kimmons captured the National Junior College Athletic Association national championship in the indoor 60-meter dash. Kimmons' time of 6.58 seconds broke the previous NJCAA record. During the outdoor season, he took top billing in the 200-meter dash, running 20.32, a personal record.
Kimmons finished second at the outdoor national meet in the 100-meter dash (10.18) and holds the Ole Miss Track and Field Complex record in the event (10.27). His personal record in the event is 10.13. For his efforts, he was named Most Valuable Player of the 2005 Eagle squad and
earned all-America status in the 100 and 200.
As a member of the Memphis Elite Track Club, Kimmons took second in the 60 at the 2004 Nike Indoor Classic (6.75). He ran the first leg of the outdoor 4x100-meter relay for Team USA at the 2004 World Junior Championships in Grosseto, Italy. The squad's 38.66 is a Junior World
Record.
"I wanted to stay close to home and represent my state," Kimmons said. "I want to win at SECs and help the team do the same. I just have to
thank my family and coaches for supporting me, and I know I've made the right decision."
At Coldwater High School, Kimmons won the Mississippi High School Activities Association's Class 2A state championships in the 100- and
400-meter dashes as a freshman and junior. He was named MVP by head coach Wert Spiva.
Kimmons is also a two-time Mississippi state powerlifting champion and was named MVP of the powerlifting and football teams at CHS.
Kimmons intends to major in kinesiology at State.
