Andre Wicker Profile Page
Ok, sometimes you are lucky. So, today you can call me Mr. Lucky.
It had been awhile since I had interviewed Andre Wicker, a 6-3, 220-pound defensive end from Booker T. Washington High School in Atlanta, Georgia. So, I got on the phone and gave him a call.
I started out with a normal recruiting question like what schools are calling you on a consistent basis? And Andre, who also has the recruiting routine down pat, starts naming them off. Then, he made a statement that brought the interview to a screeching halt.
"South Carolina, Arkansas, Kentucky and Mississippi State are," said Andre. Then he quickly said, "I just committed to Mississippi State tonight. I talked to Coach Croom not too long ago. He was very happy when I told him."
The heck with the who is recruiting you, what visits are you taking and the who has offered you type questions. MSU just received a commitment from one of the top 50 players in the state of Georgia. So, like any reporter, or in my case, lucky reporter, who has just come upon a scoop, I asked Andre more pertinent commitment-related questions such as what made him decide to commit to State now?
"I like (MSU head) Coach (Sylvester) Croom and the way he is building up his program," said the 6-3, 220-pounder.
Although no official visit has been set up, it's coming, according to Andre.
"We haven't set up a visit, but we will set it up soon," said Andre, who has over 20 scholarship offers, including ones from the likes of Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisville, South Carolina, Ole Miss, among others.
Andre has kept up with how the Bulldogs are doing. And because of that, he understands why the Dogs are 2 and 3 this season.
"I've watched almost all of their games," said the future Bulldog. "I think they need more guys and they are young. They'll be alright."
And that's why MSU Coach Croom was so excited when Andre told him he wanted to be one of those guys.
