Antaveon Bowser Profile:
Antaveon, who goes by the nickname Ta, recently became Mississippi State's fourth commitment. Like the first three commitments, Ta has one attribute that you can't coach - speed.
When you consider that Mississippi State's first four commitments are from four different states - Mississippi, Georgia, Florida and now Texas - the MSU coaches appear to be searching the nation to find speed. It doesn't matter whether he is a four-star, all-everything athlete or a one-star player, speed and athleticsm is what MSU's coaches are looking for. In fact, their three non-linemen commitments - Ta, Keith Fitzhugh and Adron Chambers - have 4.5, 4.41 and 4.37 speed in the forty, while their one lineman commitment, Meridian High School offensive lineman Chris Spencer, has quick feet that remind you of the feet of a defensive end.
Ta, an honorable mention All-District selection at cornerback last season, was first contacted by Mississippi State late in the spring evaluation period. Obviously, they liked what they saw on film, because an offer came soon after their conversation with him. "They contacted me at the beginning of June. I talked to them for awhile, then on the 18th (of June) they sent me an offer."
Mississippi State offensive line coach J.B. Grimes, a former Texas A&M coach who has contacts throughout the state of Texas, was the coach who recruited Ta. He explained during his conversation with Ta what he liked about him. "He said that I am a quick corner and that I can turn my hips fast," explained Ta, an A/B student in the classroom. "He also said that they were becoming very interested in me. He was real nice during the phone call when he called me and when I called him."
Ta, who was recruited by Texas Tech and Texas State as well as Mississippi State, quickly moved MSU to the top of his list when the scholarship offer was extended. Family members and friends also played a part in his decision to commit to State. "Some family members and friends told me how good of a school it is and that it is a college that I should go to," said Ta, who didn't attend any college football camps this summer.
Look for monthly updates on Ta throughout the upcoming season.
