Class of 2005 Prospect - MS MLB/FB Jordan Ellis

Posted May 18, 2004

Jordan Ellis (St. Stanislaus HS, 6-1, 225), a player with the size and speed of a prototype middle linebacker and fullback, is drawing significant interest from colleges after earning first-team All-District and second-team South State this past season.

Jordan Ellis Profile:

For some reason, the Mississippi Gulf Coast doesn't appear to draw the college recruiters like most areas of Mississippi. Jordan Ellis, a big, bruising middle linebacker in the mode of former Chicago Bears middle linebacker Dick Butkus, has a chance to change that this coming season.

Based on the interest he has received via recruiting letters, there are a lot of college coaches marking their road maps to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi.

"I've received letters from Alabama, Ole Miss, LSU, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Marshall, Rice, Vanderbilt, Illinois, Tennessee and Memphis," said Ellis, not only an accomplished player on the field but also an accomplished student in the classroom with a 3.0 GPA and a 22 ACT.

A versatile athlete who not only plays linebacker but also has the ability to play fullback, Ellis expects to play more fullback this year.

"Although I like linebacker more because I like to hit people, I am going to play both ways because our fullback last year was a senior," said Ellis, a starter for St. Stanislaus since his sophomore season.

With his recruiting heating up, Ellis knows attending college camps is a big part of the overall recruiting process. Because of that, he plans on attending several camps to help get his name out and to learn more about the colleges and college coaches that are showing the most interest in him.

"I've received camp brochures from Tennessee, LSU, Alabama, Ole Miss, Southern (Miss) and Mississippi State. I think I am going to go to Alabama's and LSU's camp," said the articulate youngster who was born on Christmas Day. "I'm also going to one of the (in-state) schools camps, but I'm not sure which one."

While the camps will go a long way in helping Ellis learn more about each college, he already has a tentative list of schools he is most interested in with one school a slight leader over the others.

"Alabama is probably number one on my list right now," said Ellis. "I also like Mississippi State, Ole Miss, LSU, Southern (Miss) and Vanderbilt."

Although he is still waiting for that first scholarship offer, as is 90 to 95% of all the junior football players in the nation, don't be surprised to see this big, strong, intelligent youngster start receiving offers once college coaches get a chance to see him play his senior season.
