Rankin Favoring Three

Mendenhall, Mississippi native Martinas Rankin has made the most of his time in junior college. After a successful freshman season at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College, Rankin is one of the most highly coveted junior college prospects in the Magnolia State. A trio of major college programs stand out to the rising prospect.

"Things are going really good right now," said Rankin. "We're getting ready for the season.

"We have Northeast the first game and I am ready to play.

"We're just trying to clean some things up right now and get everybody on the same page.

"I feel like we're going to be pretty good this year."

The pollsters agree with Rankin's assessment of the Bulldogs.

Gulf Coast is ranked as high as #9 in some polls as they begin their quest towards the post season for the eighth consecutive year.

In addition to handling his responsibilities for Gulf Coast and earning his associate's degree, Rankin is contemplating his senior college future.

"I am happy with how things have been going," said Rankin. "The main ones right now are Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Louisville and Kentucky.

"I am going to Oklahoma on an official visit when they play Tennessee (9/13).

"I am going on an official to Ole Miss and I am headed up to see Mississippi State play their first game next weekend against Southern Miss."

The Bulldogs have informed Rankin of his playing potential should he elect to enroll at Mississippi State next year.

"I have talked with the coaches there and they tell me that they are going to be bringing in six offensive lineman to replace all that they're losing," said Rankin. "I like it up there at Mississippi State.

"I am just to going go up there next week and see how things go and then I will just take it from there."

Rankin reports that the Bulldogs along a pair of other programs lead the proverbial pack as game week approaches.

"Louisville and Kentucky are good programs and they have good opportunities for me," said Rankin. "I like them, but the main schools that are standing out in my top three are Oklahoma, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

"I am looking forward to taking these visits and seeing what everybody has to say.

"I know I will find some things I like about every school."

Rankin reports that he does not have an overall leader and the three star will use his official visits to break the tie.

"I want to go somewhere that I feel comfortable and that I have a good chance to play right away," said Rankin. "I want to go somewhere that really needs me, so I can come in and compete and earn a spot."

Rankin has not set a firm time frame for his college decision.
