Gibson Talks Bulldog Commitment

Running back Nick Gibson has held Mississippi State in high regard since the Bulldogs first offered. On Friday, Gibson made public his decision to join Coach Dan Mullen in what is becoming a 2015 signing class that is turning some heads both regionally and nationally.

"It feels great to commit and be a part of the family," said Gibson before leaving Starkville. "I am glad to get this over with.

"I know I'm probably going to still get some phone calls, but it's official now.

"I'm a Bulldog."

Gibson reports that his decision to wear the Maroon and White is a very popular one with his family.

"I knew it was the place for me when my mom, my dad and my grandmom came over here and loved it," said Gibson. "They wanted me to come here.

"Mississippi State has been interested in me since the ninth grade and that's something I have always remembered.

"I just feel at home here now."

While many other programs wait for others to identify college level prospects, Mississippi State made a strong impression on the Pinson Valley super star because of their early interest.

"That's huge to me," said Gibson. "They were so interested in me when I was just starting out in high school and then I'm at the top of their board as a senior.

"It makes me feel really special."

Gibson reports that the good news was extremely well received by the Mississippi State coaching staff.

"Coach Mullen was so excited and Coach (Geoff) Collins was so excited," said Gibson. "Coach (Greg) Knox was real excited too.

"There were people I hadn't even met coming up and giving me dap and welcoming me to the family."

Mississippi State collected eight verbal pledges on the day, a total that pushes the Bulldogs to 12th nationally.

Gibson believes the class is capable of going even higher.

"I think we have a chance to be one of the best classes in the nation," said Gibson. "We just need everybody to keep progressing and nobody needs to decommit.

"We just need to stick together and come up here and do some big things at Mississippi State."

With his college decision made, Gibson says he is simply relieved to be able to turn his attention towards his senior season.

"It's a big relief to get this behind me," said Gibson. "I don't have to worry about what college I have to go to.

"I can just build my relationship with my new family and I don't have to worry about getting hurt or anything like that.

"I know that Mississippi State is going to work with me, because they have always been so interested in me and they have always wanted me to be a Bulldog."
