2017 Prospect Devin Gilmore Update

Class of 2017 prospect Devin Gilmore of Madison-Ridgeland (MS) Academy competed in the Marc Rowe Exposure Camp this past weekend at Ridgeland (MS) High School.

  • Name: Devin Gilmore
  • Classification: 2017
  • High School: Madison-Ridgeland (MS) Academy
  • AAU Team: Swilling Storm (New Orleans, LA)
  • Position: Wing/Guard
  • HT-WT: 6-4, 180

  • I first saw Gilmore play in an AAU basketball tournament last spring. Since then, his game has improved significantly.

"I can shoot better, jump higher, run faster and my handles have gotten tremendously better," said Gilmore, who recently transferred from Picayune (MS) High School to Madison-Ridgeland Academy.

While some of that came from physically maturing, Gilmore is also working hard in the gym to improve his overall game.

"I stay in the gym day-in, day-out," he said. "I watch a lot of Kyrie Irving drills. And I learned how to do some of those drills."

Another talented basketball player who also happens to be Gilmore's cousin, former NBA hoops star Jonathan Bender, offers him advice as well.

"He tells me to stay humble and keep a hard work ethic, get my books and just be coachable," said Gilmore.

Gilmore has already started receiving recruiting attention from colleges coaches throughout the east and south.

"I have seen Mississippi State, Kentucky, North Carolina and Syracuse come to my school," he said. "There are some more that have come in but my parents and coaches haven't told me who they are."

Knowing that college coaches have already taken notice of him makes him work even harder.

"It makes me feel good and makes me feel like the sky is the limit," said Gilmore. "Having them come see me gives me a better mindset to stay in the gym and work harder. The better I get, the more mature I get, the more colleges will come in."

Although still early in the recruiting process, Gilmore is already thinking about attending college basketball games, especially one of the schools that is showing interest in him.

"I've thought about attending some schools when they play games," said Gilmore. " I know I want to go watch Kentucky."
