This is John Cohen's 5th recruiting class since being at MSU. It is also his highest ranked recruiting class. Four of his five classes have been ranked among the top 20 in the nation (15th, 18th, 20th, 2nd).

Along with John Cohen, assistant coaches Butch Thompson and Nick Mingione are the primary recruiters on the staff.

Since Cohen came aboard as MSU's head coach, MSU has seen an upswing in its recruiting rankings. The six years prior to him being named MSU's head coach, MSU had recruiting rankings of 31, 33, 17, 31, 26 and unranked.

This year's No. 2 ranked class is led by three signees who were drafted in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft, including junior college pitcher Paul Young (21st round, Cleveland Indians), freshman infielder Reid Humphreys (36th round, Washington Nationals) and freshman pitcher Dakota Hudson (36th round, Texas Rangers). Young and Hudson both consistently throw in the low 90s, topping out in the 95 to 97 range. Humphreys was rated among the top 25 high school players in the nation and expected to be a 2nd to 3rd round draft pick prior to his Tommy John surgery. He is almost completely healed from the surgery.

Another player, freshman catcher Gavin Collins, was also projected to be drafted anywhere from the 3rd to the 5th round but an injury prevented him from being drafted. He is now completely healed from his injury.

Freshman outfielder Joey Swinarski, who elected to graduate early and attend MSU this year, was also expected to be drafted anywhere from the 4th to the 7th round.

Of the 19 players in the class, eleven are pitchers (3 lefties, 8 righties), two are catchers, three are infielders and three are outfielders. Thirteen are high school players and six are junior college players
