The football season is already three weeks old for some teams around the state of Mississippi. Teams in Alabama and Georgia just completed their second week of action. Several Mississippi State commitments are off to strong starts this season.

Aeris Williams continues to be the most talked about running back in the state of Mississippi.

Last week Williams scored four touchdowns against defending 6A state champion South Panola.

For an encore, Williams went to work against defending 5A state champion Starkville.

Williams rushed for nearly 250 yards and found the endzone twice as West Point trounced the Yellow Jackets 55-33.

West Point (1-1) will host Columbus next week.

Jamoral Graham had over 150 all purpose yards as Newton County won over Kosciusko 33-21.

Newton County has been extremely impressive in the early going running their record to 3-0.

The train keeps rolling next week as Newton County visits Forest.

Elijah Staley may need to get a part time job because he has had plenty of extra time on Friday nights.

Staley accounted for five touchdowns in Wheeler's 59-20 trouncing of Pope.

Staley connected on three touchdown tosses, ran for two additional scores and accounted for over 350 yards of offense before giving way to his backup.

Wheeler (2-0) will take on Hughes next week.

Nick Fitzgerald helped his offense get on track Friday night in a 28-6 win over Beach.

Fitzgerald opened the scoring with a 60 yard touchdown run.

Richmond Hill also found the endzone twice on touchdown passes of 59 and 27 yards from Fitzgerald.

Next week Richmond Hill (2-0) will host Savannah.

Dontavian Lee scored a pair of nine yard touchdown runs in the third quarter and helped FCAHS win a wild affair over Stone 34-33.

FCAHS evens their record at 1-1 and will travel to Magee next week.

Logan Cooke connected on a 46 yard field goal to help lead Columbia Academy to a 23-13 win over Ben's Ford (LA).

Cooke had three punts on the night with a 49 yard average and three kickoffs that averaged 69 yards per kick.

Cooke left the game and took a visit to a local hospital after being hit on his 46 yard field goal attempt.

X-rays were negative and the initial diagnosis is a bruised shin.

Cooke will attend the Mississippi State home opener tomorrow anyway, crutches and all.

Columbia Academy (2-1) will travel to Wayne Academy next week.

Tyler Jones and Jordan Harris helped Stephenson run their early season record to 2-0 after a 46-7 pasting of Arabia Mountain.

Stephenson will travel to Dunwoody for next week's contest.

Braxton Hoyett and Pelham High advanced to 2-0 after a hard fought contest that ended in 16-10 Panther victory.

PHS will travel to Thompson next week.

Chris Rayford and Byhalia wound up on the business end of a 23-6 decision with Center Hill.

Byhalia drops to 1-2 on the campaign with a game with Southwind High of Memphis coming next week.

Gerri Green and Greenville-Weston dropped their second straight decision, 32-14 to Grenada.

The Hornets will play Greenwood next week in an important game for both teams.

Darius Liggins and Oxford suffered their first defeat of the season Friday night as the Chargers fell to undefeated Cleveland Eastside 35-22.

In junior college action Thursday, Norman Price and Hinds rolled over Coahoma 55-20 to run their record to 2-0.

Hinds will take on Gulfcoast next week in a huge game for both programs.

In another impressive contest, Jocquell Johnson helped pave the way for Co-Lin (2-0) in a 48-24 win over Northwest.

The defending Region champs will travel to East Central next week.

Deshon Cooper is still not 100%, but his Columbia team will be in action Saturday evening against McNair.

Lashard Durr and Harrison Central (2-0) are off this week.

The Red Rebels will take on Greene County when they return to action next week.
