2014 Joniah White Update
Name: Joniah White Classification: 2014 High School: Madison Central (MS) High School 2013 HS Season Stats: 11.1 ppg, 10.8 rpg, 9.8 bpg AAU Team: Jackson Tigers Position: Center HT-WT: 6-foot-11, 200 pounds Colleges of Interest: Alabama, Iowa State, Memphis (offer), Mississippi State (offer), Ole Miss, Tennessee Playing with the Jackson Tigers this AAU season, White is looking to improve his overall game. "I'm just trying to get better every day, whether it is blocking shots, jumping higher, running the floor better, playing defense, being vocal with my teammates to help them know where they need to be on the court," said the youngster. "I also want to get into the weight room a lot more this summer. Really, I just want to get better all around." While his defense is college ready, his offense is a part of his game he really wants to expand. "Offensively, I would like to expand my game a little more," said White. "On my high school team I averaged about 10 points per game. (In AAU) I want to get the ball a lot more and take more shots." He believes playing AAU ball also helps him due to the different type talent he plays against. "AAU ball helps me because I get to see different type talent that can do different type things on the floor," said White. "Seeing them really helps me out a lot." Also playing with the talent that is on his AAU team will help him improve his game. "Playing with this kind of talent (that we have on the Jackson Tigers) pushes me to be better and pushes me to demand the ball more," said the talented big man. "Playing with them makes me a better teammate." Recruiting-wise, White is hearing from several schools, mostly in the SEC. "A lot of teams in the SEC are recruiting me, Alabama, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee, also Memphis, Iowa State," he said. "Mississippi State and Memphis have offered." A couple of schools are showing the most interest. "I talk to Coach (Jon) Harris, the assistant coach from Tennessee," said White. "I also talk to (assistant) Coach (George) Brooks and (head) Coach (Rick) Ray from Mississippi State." He's impressed with all three coaches. "Coach Harris is a real cool guy who is fun to be around," said White. "Coach Brooks has been contacting me since my 10th grade year. He and Coach Ray kind of know more about me than the other colleges. I have been to Mississippi State a few times and it's a nice campus, a nice school." While White is taking the recruiting process slow and easy at the moment, he does have an idea what he is looking for on the next level. "I haven't set up any kind of timetable (on when I will make my decision)," he said. "But what I am looking for in a school is one that will make an NCAA appearance because I want to be on a championship contender."
