Blake recently attended the Mississippi State baseball camp as well as a Southern Miss camp and coaches from both schools appeared to be very impressed with what they saw from the youngster.
"I've gone to baseball camps at Mississippi State and Southern Miss," said Blake. "The coaches (at both schools) like that I have a strong arm."
Although just a sophomore, he is already throwing his fastball in the mid to high 80s.
"As a pitcher, I live and die by the fastball," said Blake, who had a 2-0 record with a 0.58 ERA on George County's junior varsity team as a freshman. "My top fastball velocity is 89 (miles per hour). My average velocity is 86-87. I also throw a slider and changeup. My slider velocity is about 82-83. My changeup is around 78-80."
While the coaches at both schools liked what they saw, Blake also came away impressed with both schools after learning more about them while camping there.
"At Mississippi State, I like how high energy it is," said Blake. "I also like the coaches because they are real friendly to you and sit down and talk to you.
"At Southern Miss, it was about the same but there wasn't as much high tech stuff as there is at Mississippi State."
Blake doesn't just play baseball. He's also a potential college prospect in football. He's already been looked at by an SEC school.
"In football, Alabama has looked at me as a quarterback," said Blake. "I am more of a pocket passer."
As for baseball, he's getting solid looks from an SEC school.
"In baseball, Mississippi State is looking at me," said Blake.
As for which sport he will wind up playing on the collegiate level, Blake is not totally sure about that. A lot will depend on how he progresses as a pitcher in baseball.
"Which sport I prefer is still up in the air," he said. "But if I'm throwing 96-97 by the time I'm a senior, then I'm choosing baseball for sure."
