Early Offers for Mississippi Linebacker?

One of Mississippi's most physical juniors is already hearing from several college programs. Grenada standout Genard Avery had a great season in 2012 and he hopes to build on that next fall in hopes of rising to the top of the Magnolia State's recruiting rankings.

"I feel like I did a lot of things better this year," said Genard. "I feel like my coverage was a lot better and my reads were a lot better.

"We worked on tackling a lot this year and I think that really helped me become a better player."

With his all important junior campaign in the books, Avery has the attention of several college recruiters.

"I have heard from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Michigan, the Ragun Cajuns from Louisiana, Notre Dame, Alabama and Jackson State," said Avery. "I went to games at Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss this season."

Avery reports that he found some positive things at all three in state programs.

"I pretty much stayed in state with my trips," said Avery. "All of the games were hype and the atmospheres were good.

"I had a chance to meet all of the coaches and they all made me feel good about going to their games."

While several schools have shown some early interest, Avery believes his first offers may come from pretty close to home.

"I think Mississippi State and Ole Miss might be the first ones to offer me," said Avery. "They both are talking about offering me.

"They haven't offered yet, but they have told me that they are really interested in me.

"I like both of them and I like the idea of being able to play in state."
