"I committed to Mississippi State the summer after my sophomore year," said Grant. "I call (Assistant) Coach Sean (Covich) and committed. I then called (Head) Coach (Clay) Homan and told him. They both told me it was the best news that they had heard in awhile. They were pretty excited."
He explained why he chose Mississippi State over several other colleges that were recruiting him.
"I was looking at four schools, Southern Miss, Auburn, Ole Miss and Mississippi State," said Grant. "I really like the (Mississippi State) coaches, Coach Homan and Coach Sean. They are really good guys. I didn't have a favorite college growing up. I just really liked them.
"They also have a really good practice facility up there, Old Waverly."
Grant saw his recruitment start early due to winning state championships his 8th and 10th grade seasons.
"My recruitment really started to happen after I won my second state championship (during May of my sophomore season)," said Grant.
An excellent driver and a good iron player, Grant has been playing golf for a number of years.
"I started playing when I was nine," said Grant. "My dad got me out there and played with me. And I really got into it."
Grant joins Tupelo High School's Austin Rose as Mississippi State two commitments from the class of 2014.
