Kameron Myers, Next Lampley?

Kameron Myers, Next Lampley?

Southern Miss has through the years prided itself on finding stand-out talent from under the radar prospects. Kameron Myers, Ath, from Charleston (MS), is a prospect to keep a close eye on in the weeks ahead. Will the Eagles extend an offer to the player many are calling the next Tracey Lampley?

Explosive. Shifty. Playmaker. Game changer. Hard worker. Those labels have all been used to describe Charleston High School's Kameron Myers.

They've also been used of a guy who Eagle fans were wowed by for the last four years, Tracey Lampley.

Myers is often overlooked because he is only 5'8, but as his Coach Tony Vance tells us, he's the type of player everyone will be upset they passed on.

"Kameron is the type of guy who, just to boil it all down, you don't want to Coach against," Vance told GoldenEaglePride.com yesterday in an interview.

"As talented of a football player as he is, he's an even better person. He is humble, a hard worker, he compensates for his lack of height with hard work. I tell Coaches come watch him practice, any day. You don't have to tell him when you are coming, he's the same player every single day."

For Charleston High School last season, he literally did it all.

"He is very well put together as an athlete," he said. "He is solid, smart, and has great instincts which has allowed him to play everywhere for us last year.

"He played slot receiver, running back, cornerback, safety, and one time we lost our QB and he ended up starting there a few games and throwing 6 or 7 TD passes!"

Coach Vance feels that at the next level, he'd be used a lot like Lampley was in his days at Southern Miss.

"He'll be a slot receiver, a return guy, and you can run him out of the backfield too," he said. "He is very explosive, and he'll run away from players. Most people don't know this, but he was clocked twice at a 4.3 40 at both an Alabama camp and Mississippi State.

"He runs precise routes and has great hands. Why hasn't he had more looks? It is all because of his size. Whoever takes a chance on him will be thankful they did."

Right now, Myers is close to an offer.

"UAB is recruiting him the hardest right now," he said. "They have really been pursuing him and I expect them to offer. He's also hearing from Ole Miss, Alcorn State, Valley, and the old staff from Southern Miss paid him a visit."

Where is the talented athlete leaning?

"Well he loves Southern Miss," he said. "He has a cousin that goes to school there and I think he'd love to be a part of that offense. Jeep Hunter visited with him when he was there. I'm hoping the new staff will give him a look because he would fit great into that new system of Todd Monken."

One Coach who really is high on him is former Southern Miss running back Derrick Nix.

"Nix told me that he'll be a great player at the next level if someone will give him the opportunity," he added. "That's all he needs, an opportunity. I've never met a player more deserving."

Myers is expected to take a few visits and continue to send film in hopes of landing some more offers. We will have an interview with him directly next week after Christmas. Stay tuned.
