The final week of the high school season is upon the state of Mississippi, while the state of Florida still has some games left to play. Four Mississippi State commitments entered last week's action with state title aspirations. Heading into this week, three of those verbal pledges are one step closer to closing out their high school careers on top.

Starkville High School began the season 1-3 including a 47-22 loss to West Point.

While some were ready to leave the Jackets for dead, Coach Jamie Mitchell and his team reeled off ten straight wins to recapture the 5A north state title.

This past Friday night, Starkville was down to its' final down, but found a way to win.

Gabriel Myles threw a 15 yard touchdown pass on fourth down to keep the game alive and then followed that scoring strike with a successful run to glory on the two point conversion that lifted Starkville over West Point 29-28 in overtime.

Myles completed six of ten passes for 120 yards and a touchdown.

Starkville (11-3) will take on Pascagoula in the 5A state title game this weekend.

Deon Mix and South Panola (12-2) put together a dominating performance in the 6A north state title game against Madison Central.

The Tigers scored early and often building a 21-6 halftime lead.

Mix and the South Panola offensive line took over in the second half and put the game away with three unanswered scores to bring the final tally to 38-6.

The Tigers will take on Brandon in the 6A state championship game.

Cord Sandberg has spent a lot of time watching football ball from the sidelines.

Sandberg made an early exit again this past week as Manatee put the game out of reach in the first half.

Sandberg competed nine of twelve passes for 125 yards including touchdown tosses of 25 and 32.

For good measure, Sanbderg added a 12 yard touchdown run of his own in the 56-7 shelling of Venice High.

Manatee will put their national #1 ranking on the line again this week when they take on Central in the semi-finals.

The championship dream came to a close for Brandon Wells and #1 ranked Bogue Chitto.

Stringer got out to an early lead, but there would be no comeback this time for the Bobcats.

The homestanding Red Devils of Stringer held Wells to 75 yards rushing this time out.

During the regular season, Wells directed a fierce comeback that ended with a win over this same Stringer team.

The rematch did not allow for the same level of drama as SHS won 21-7 advancing to the 1A state title game.

All other Mississippi State commitments have completed their 2012 seasons.
