C.J. Mosley is one of five finalists up for the Butkus Award, which honors the best linebacker in college football.

C.J. Mosley has been named one of five finalists for the Butkus Award, which honors the best linebacker in college football.

Mosley, a junior, is joined by Georgia's Jarvis Jones, Oregon's Dion Jordan, Notre Dame's Manti Te'o and LSU's Kevin Minter.

The only Alabama players to ever win this award were Rolando McClain (2009) and Derrick Thomas (1988).

Mosley leads the Crimson Tide (and is seventh in the SEC) with 89 tackles. He's also recorded six tackles for loss, four sacks, two interceptions—one of which was returned for a touchdown against Michigan—and a forced fumble.

The Alabama coaching staff has selected Mosley as one of the team's players of the week after nine of the Tide's 11 games.

The Butkus Award winner will be announced the first week in December.
