Seven Mississippi State 2013 verbal commitments took to the field last night in hopes of taking one more step towards a state championship. After last night's action, just four future Bulldogs remain in contention for the #1 spot. Three others have played their final game at their respective high schools.

Gabriel Myles and Starkville High set a goal of getting back to Jackson the moment the Yellow Jackets fell to Picayune in last year's 5A state title game.

SHS is now one more win away from realizing that goal.

Myles ran for a pair of scores as Starkville (11-3) beat Oxford 28-7.

The Jackets have now won nine games in a row after starting the season 1-3.

Next week Myles and company will get a rematch against West Point, the last team to beat them.

Deon Mix and South Panola (11-2) continued their strong play with a 35-13 win over Clinton.

The Tigers now advance to the 6A North State title game against Madison Central.

Brandon Wells and #1 Bogue Chitto came from behind to knock off Pelahatchie 28-22.

The Bobcats trailed throughout the contest, but Germie Martin reeled in what proved to be the game winning touchdown pass in the 4th quarter.

BCHS will host district for Stringer next week in the 1A south state title game.

The Bobcats knocked of Stringer earlier this season 34-28 in a wild affair.

Cord Sandberg made quick work of Northeast in their first round playoff game as the Hurricanes rolled 65-12.

Sandberg threw touchdown passes of 29, 23 and 16 yards and ran for a 10 yard touchdown in the first half alone.

The four star quarterback spent the second half on the sidelines with the game well in hand.

Manatee (11-0) will play Venice in the second round. MHS blasted Venice 56-27 earlier this season.

Kailo Moore's impressive high school career has come to a close at West Bolivar.

Despite a 61 yard touchdown run in a tight game, Moore and the defending 2A champions fell to Bruce 14-12.

West Bolivar ends the season 11-3.

Chris Jones and Houston's magical season has ended. The Hilltoppers had never won a playoff game before this season, but managed to win two this year.

Jones opened the scoring against Louisville last night with a 71 yard interception return.

In the end Louisville was able to find the endzone several times in a 46-21 win.

Houston ends the season 11-3. The three losses are to Louisville and Noxubee County who will face off next week in the 4A north state title game.

Shelby Christy and Dutchtown made it interesting for #1 seed Rummel.

The Griffins made a late run of things, but were unable to compete the comeback. The final score of 21-10 is indicative of how hard Dutchtown fought.

The comeback effort was led by a backup quarterback after senior starter Mason Nickens was lost to an ankle injury.

The 2012 season has already concluded for the remaining Bulldog commitments.

New Blood

Friday proved to be a changing of the guard in most classifications as four defending state champions tasted defeat.

1A state champion Noxapater fell to Stringer.

2A state champion West Bolivar fell to Bruce.

5A state champion Picayune fell to Pascagoula.

6A state champion Olive Branch fell to Madison Central.

4A state champion Lafayette lost to Noxubee in the second round.

Charleston the defending 3A state champions are the only 2011 title holders to remain in contention for a repeat.
