From Unknown to All-American

Chris Jones has become one of the most popular players in the state of Mississippi. The four star defensive end emerged from the backwoods of north Mississippi to become one of the most fierce pass rushers in the Magnolia State. Earlier this week, Jones learned that he would be taking his show on the road as member of the Under Armour All-American game.

"I found out about two days ago that I was on the roster," said Jones of his All-American selection. "I am real proud to be on the team.

"I just keep working hard and good things keep happening."

Jones had previously been issued invitations to take part in the Semper Fidelis Bowl game and the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star game.

The talented defensive end will be one of nine Mississippi State commitments representing Team Mississippi on December 15th.

"I am real excited about playing in the All-Star game. "It's like we're going in there as a family and we're going to work together to get a win for Mississippi.

"We'll be talking to some of the other guys about coming to Mississippi State. I know we're going to be trying to get Ashton Shumpert to buy into it."

Jones is looking forward to spending some time with South Panola's Antonio Conner. Jones and the five star safety will be teammates in both All-Star events.

"It's going to be good that we get to be together when we play in the All-Star game," said Jones of Conner. "It will be good that we already know each other when we go down to Under Armour.

"I'll have somebody I know already, so I won't feel so alone down there.

"I don't really know him that well yet, but we're going to spend a lot of time together."

Jones made his decision to commit to Mississippi State during the early part of summer. Despite his elevated profile, Jones reports that he is solid in his decision.

"Mississippi State is the only school I am talking to and I talk to them about every other day," said Jones. "I have been to all of the home games this year.

"The defense is playing great and I like watching them. I feel like I fit in with the defense and I am looking forward to getting out there and playing hard.

"I am happy being a Bulldog, so I am just working and working to get better.

"I don't really worry about anything else."

Jones has been a big part of Houston High's success this fall and he hopes to finish the season off with a flurry.

"We are trying to make history," said Jones. "Houston has never won a playoff game before, so we want to be the first team to do it.

"We know we're in the playoffs. We're playing for either the three or the four spot.

"We play Kosciusko this week and then we'll find out who we play." Recommended Stories
