2015 PG Marcus Watson Update

Northwest Rankin (Flowood, MS) High School 2015 point guard Marcus Watson is already hearing from several colleges.

  • Name: Marcus Watson
  • Classification: 2015
  • High School: Northwest Rankin (Flowood, MS) High School
  • AAU Team: MBA Hoops
  • Position: Point Guard
  • HT-WT: 6-foot, 160
  • Colleges of Interest: Auburn, Baylor, Marquette, Mississippi State, North Carolina, UNLV, Ole Miss, Syracuse, Western Kentucky

  • "Auburn, Ole Miss, UNLV, Western Kentucky, Mississippi State and Baylor are showing interest," said his AAU coach Omhar Carter of MBA Hoops. "They like his speed. If I'm not mistaken, I believe he has Olympic track runners in his family. They not only like his speed but his athleticism and his vision on the court. Running schools really like him. Marquette is one and UNLV also. Those type schools love him because they don't like to run a lot of half-court sets, they want to get up and down the floor."

Watson has an idea what he is looking for in a college. And he has two colleges that are at the top of his early recruiting wish list.

"I want to go to a college that will make me work for everything that I get," he said. "I don't want anything given to me. I want to earn it. I would like to go to either Syracuse or North Carolina."

Watson talked about his strengths as a basketball player and things he knows he still needs to work on.

"My quickness and me getting to the basket is what people see from me," said the talented sophomore. "I haven't seen anybody as quick as I am.

"Offensively, I've good at getting to the basket and scoring in transition. I'm working on my outside shot. Defensively, I can get the five-second call when I want to but I have to work on getting it every time. I have to be more consistent."

Playing AAU ball with Coach Carter has helped him recruiting-wise and his overall game.

"(Playing AAU) gives you more exposure than high school ball because you play all over the country," said Watson. "t allows you to compete (against so many great players),"
