"I committed to Mississippi State," said Denson, who visited MSU two weekends ago . "(Mississippi State head) Coach (Rick) Ray was very excited."
He explained why he chose Mississippi State.
"I loved the campus. I loved the coaching staff more than anything," said the 6-foot-9 small forward. "That's what sold me. And the players, the player are so down-to-earth. They treated me like family, and they were very fair. That was what I was looking for, somewhere where there would be an easy transition. And the players have the same goal as me, and that is winning."
Although he liked the entire Mississippi State coaching staff, he was particularly impressed with Coach Ray.
"Coach Ray is from Kansas City, too," said Denson. "He's just like me, a straight-shooter. He's shot me straight ever since he starting speaking to me. He told me the truth and he seems sincere."
He talked about the things Coach Ray likes about his game.
"Coach Ray really loves my skill set," said Denson. "He thinks I am really advanced for how I shoot the ball. He also likes my footwork. Really, he just likes my skill level."
Denson explained what MSU fans can expect to see from him next season.
"I like to pull the defense out and stretch the floor because I'm a pretty good shooter," said Denson. "I can shoot the threes well. But I can go inside/out. I can rebound well. I don't know how much Coach (Ray) will let me put the ball on the floor, but I can do a little of everything with the ball."
As for what position he expects to play for the Bulldogs, he's ready to do whatever Coach Ray wants from him.
"I love playing the wing but I'm comfortable doing whatever it takes to help us win," said Denson, who, in addition to Mississippi State, had three other finalists, Marquette, Western Kentucky and Oklahoma State. "If it takes playing in the post, then I will play in the post. But whatever Coach Ray needs from me is what I will be ready to do."
Denson, who averaged 6.5 points per game and 4 rebounds per game as a freshman at Hutchinson Community College in Kansas before transferring to Mineral Area Community College, is the third commitment in the class of 2013 for the Bulldogs. He joins 6-foot-8, 205-pound small forward Travis Daniels of Shelton State Community College (Tuscaloosa, AL) and 5-foot-10, 160-pound point guard I.J. Ready of Parkview Magnet High School (Little Rock AR).
