"This is where my heart has been since I have been recruited by Mississippi State," said Mix when asked why he committed to Mississippi State. "I had 23 offers but Mississippi State has stuck out since the beginning. I just love it down here and this is where I wanted to be instead of being pressured into going somewhere. It is a family. I love the competitiveness. It's in the SEC. I just felt at home down here.
"I have felt this way since they started recruiting me which was last year during my sophomore year."
Each time he visited Mississippi State the family atmosphere was something that always stood out.
"It's just the way people treat you down here," said Mix. "It's like I'm going into my backyard. Everybody talks to me like I'm their brother. (And) the players are like my brothers. They work out hard and they play like I play, they want to win."
While Mix was obviously excited about his commitment, Mississippi State head man Dan Mullen was just as excited.
"I told (the MSU coaches) I was ready to be a Bulldog," said Mix. "(Dan Mullen) was as excited as I am."
Mix's family is also excited about his decision.
"(My family is) behind me 100%," said Mix "My sister loves it and my mom is behind me a 100%. It's good to have that kind of support."
While there have been hints that Mix might commit to Mississippi State this weekend, he tried his best to keep it quiet until he could tell the MSU coaches in person.
"I was kind of hiding it (but) I have been knowing for awhile," said Mix. "I was just keeping it a secret, but it's out there now."
With the excitement of committing out of the way, he can now focus on what is most important leading into his senior season of high school ball.
"Getting this out of the way is big," said Mix. "Now I can focus on a national championship, state championship and get better for my team."
