Stratton Wins C Spire Wireless Ferris Trophy

Mississippi State junior pitcher Chris Stratton won the 2012 C Spire Wireless Ferris Trophy today at a luncheon located at the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum in Jackson, Mississippi.

Stratton, who is currently 9-1 with a 2.22 earned run average and 107 strikeouts and 19 walks in 89.3 innings this season, won out over the other two nominees, Alex Yarbrough of Ole Miss and Colton Mitchell of Delta State.

"It is a special honor for Chris to win the award," said Mississippi State pitching coach Butch Thompson. "I've seen how much Chris has put into it, how much he has been through and how much he has grown as a player.

"I think he is very well deserving of the honor of winning the award."

Stratton is the first Mississippi State baseball player to win the award since Ed Easley won it award in 2007.

Chris Stratton, an expected first-round draft choice in June's Major League Baseball Draft, and his teammates will conclude their regular season this weekend (Thursday-Saturday) when they play the No. 2 ranked Kentucky Wildcats in a three-game SEC series at Dudy Noble Field.
